History of India Post
From Runners to Rockets: A 170-Year Journey
Indias postal history began in the 18th century under the East India Company. In 1852, Sir Bartle Frere introduced Asias first adhesive stamps, the Scinde Dawk. Since Independence in 1947, India Post has grown into the largest network in the world. It operates the worlds highest post office in Hikkim (14,567 ft) and even a floating post office in Dal Lake, Srinagar. Modernization efforts like Project Arrow and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) ensure that Bharat remains connected even in the digital age.
